Things to do and nature

Can I go fishing in Vadsø?

Last updated: 8 October 2026

Short answer

Yes. You can fish for cod, saithe, wolffish and halibut on the Varangerfjord, in a hired boat or with a guide. You can also fish for salmon in the Jakobselva river, and join guided fly fishing on the Varanger Peninsula in summer. See Fishing in Varanger.

In more detail

Since 2010 the Jakobselva has been one of Norway’s best small salmon rivers, with five fishing zones to choose from. Boats with or without a guide can be hired from, among others, Jakobselvkaia (from NOK 900 an hour, NOK 1,200 with a guide), and Varangertunet offers fjord fishing right outside the guesthouse (from NOK 990) and guided fly fishing in summer (from NOK 300). Prices are starting prices as of autumn 2026.
