“The Kven capital” is a nickname, not an official title. Many Kven and Finnish immigrants settled in Vadsø, especially in the 1700s and 1800s, and the Kven neighbourhoods still shape the town. Today it is home to Vadsø museum – Ruija kvenmuseum, which has national responsibility for Kven and Norwegian-Finnish cultural history.
